Our team member 🧕🏼, Iman, injecting upcycled products with ease on one of our upcycling machines😉
But hey, don't let her effortlessness deceive you... the process of injection REQUIRES A LOT OF ENERGY and force to inject the melting plastic into the mould. It consists of the following four stages:
1. FASTENING - Before injecting plastic waste into the mold, it must be securely fastened closed and then threaded into the injection machine barrel.
2. INJECTING - The shredded plastic waste is fed into the barrel of the machine where it is melted by heat and pressure. The molten plastic is then injected into the mold smoothly in a single motion, using only bodyweight and just the right amount of force to completely fill the mold; too much force, and the plastic will overflow; too little, and the parts will be incomplete.
3. COOLING - The molten plastic that is inside the mold begins to cool as soon as it makes contact with the interior mold surfaces. As the plastic cools, it will solidify into the shape of the desired part. However, some shrinkage may occur during cooling.
4. TRIMMING - After sufficient time has passed, the mold is opened and the product is taken out and any excess material is hand trimmed by our artisans.
